Folk Dance vs. Traditional Dance
|
* Folk dance is defined as theatrical representations of Filipino culture through the choreography and staging of dances inspired by the repertoire of Bayanihan Dance Company and Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group. Foundational elements included ballet training.
** Traditional dance is defined as dances practiced by the Igorot, Moro, and Lumad communities, or Indigenous Peoples of the Philippines. Though there will be some altering of choreography because of the process that changes movement from the village to stage, the goal is to try to preserve the spirit and authenticity of the culture through the dance presentation. |
"Now culture being a social product, I firmly believe that any work of art should have a social function to beautify, to glorify, to dignify man... Since any social system is forced to change to another by concrete economic forces, its art changes also to be recharged, reshaped, and revitalized by the new conditions... The making of a genuine artist or writer is not mysterious. It is not the work of Divine Providence. Social conditions, history, and the people's struggle are the factors behind it."
